Phase Transitions (2019)
Quadraphonic sound
10:36
Phase Transitions treats sound as if it were a physical substance that can move through the different states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. In the composition, these different states correspond to how freely sound can move and transform. The piece begins in a gaseous state that gradually transforms into a solid. As we transition from gas to liquid to solid, we move from the abstract and ambiguous to the imaginable and recognisable, until finally reaching a semblance of reality.
Phase Transitions was recorded and composed during an eight-week studio residency at Gurodong Studio, Seoul, South Korea.
